Preston Goes Back to the Doctor

Well- we made it through our first night at home. It was a little rough because Preston had a tough time eating, but I guess we need to get used to not sleeping anymore! We took Preston back to the doctor and unfortunately Preston lost more weight and is more jaundiced. I guess we haven't been feeding him as much as he needs so the doctor told us to give him formula after the breastmilk for the next couple of days to help him gain weight and get rid of the jaundice. He also needs to sit in the sun. He barely fussed at his appt, even when they had to take his blood from his foot! We have another dr appt tomorrow to check on his status. On a more positive note, Preston did great riding in the car and taking a trip to Target and HyVee. Already we can tell that he is getting more food today because he is breastfeeding better and taking in some formula. He also poops about every 1/2 hr!
He loves to sleep during the day! Nakey baby in the sun

That's a good sign that he's getting enough food if he's pooping every 1/2 hour!!! :) The sleep part does get better, or maybe you just get so used to the lack of it that you don't notice anymore!! ha ha He looks like a cutie-pie. See ya soon!

That is exactly what happend with Gus. We had to feed him formula after I nursed for several days. I didn't make any milk until almost the first week had passed. And Gus was really jaundice too. They said early, breastfed babies are at high risk for jaundice. We had to get is blood drawn from his poor little feet everyday for a whole week after we brought him home, and we had to have him on light therapy at home (UV blanket) for several days. He almost had to be admitted back to the hospital. His bellirubin levels were at 19 at their highest. Just keep a close eye on it, severe liver damage can result if not watched carefully. Call us if you have any questions! He is oh so so so cute btw!
